Luggage Options

Trying to decide on a luggage option. Soft v hard panniers? Panniers and/or topbox? Which manufacturers to use?

I like the GIVI system but its expensive. Any experiences from the good folks on this forum?

I see that it seems a rear carrier involves cutting into the side panels on the bike, anybody found anything that fits without this being done?

I want something that's easy to remove when not needed and doesn't leave behind an ugly frame.

Any opinions greatly received.

Regards,

WB.

If you're after soft luggage and can accept a minimum of cutting of the plastics then I can recommend the Ventura luggage system. See my earlier posts for some fitment advice and details of just how little cutting I had to do and that it's not visible really anyway if you removed everything.

Regarding ease of removal:

I've just taken my bike out of the garage
taken the usual grab rail off
replaced it with the luggage rack
fitted a bag to the rack
removed bag & rack
removed fitting rails
re-fitted the usual grab rail
and put the bike away.

Have taken the attached pics to show you what I mean and reckon the whole thing took about 10 to 15 minutes to do.

Givi V35 can be fitted with different colour side panels, panel can be painted or vinyl wrapped in any colour.

Thanks for a tip! I think a reflective vinyl wrapped would be ideal.

I also have the cycle guys fastpack like donut.

Some pictures of it here

It's nice for bringing a few smaller items on a trip, or if you buy something while you are out, or just carry a change of clothes.
That thing expands! As you said, grate idea to be on the bike, just in case you need the space.

The V35 come with smoke or red reflectors at the rear, I got the black lid and smoke reflectors on my MT above.
Same goes with the B37 or B47 top boxes, red or smoke reflectors, optional bolt-on lids.
Here a vid on how to replace V35 side panel.

I imagine removing the side panels and painting them to the base color of the bike would give it a good match.
