Annoying/Dangerous Drivers

I've got a couple of short videos I posted on YouTube showing 'misbehaving' drivers whilst out and about on my MT-07. Well the second one wasn't dangerous, but he was annoying...

Anyone else got any?

I've been creating a "Villains's gallery" of people doing stupid things / texting while driving etc...no idea what to do with the images (screen caps from my helmet camera) but there's a frightening amount - the collection is growing fast!

I see that every morning, people using their mobile phones. Drives me crazy when I see it, I've thought about honking the horn or something and telling them off but the last thing you want is some nut case getting road rage at you.

Maybe you should log it all and inform the police about how often you encounter it. Sometimes they will do a 1 month campaign against such things as mobile use, rake in loads of cash in fines and scare people into not doing it.

Bad driving is more difficult to dosomething about without more police presence on the roads which they probably don't have the budget for.

I have a confession...

When people do stupid things/nearly kill you does anyone else take the wing mirror I've had about 5 incidents where I felt it necessary to make the driver aware that he has nearly killed me/pissed me off?

Wing mirror justice! Happened a few times mostly when filtering and they look at you and close the gap [emoji35] or when they cut you up on a dual carriage way without indicating. Is that what you are trying to say? [emoji10] [emoji6]

Well at least those wing-mirrorless drivers will behave better in the future. And any witnesses will have a much heightened respect for us bikers and our faultless abilities.

We have a website where we can notify the police of this type of issue - on average I submit two reports a day from the footage I get on my commute. I don't know how much good it does to be honest, but maybe they'll get a warning in the mail and realise someone's watching them. :)

It's tempting, but be careful.

Friend of mine, many years ago booted someones wing mirror off and rode off laughing to herself. The driver, not surprisingly, reported her, and she was prosecuted for leaving the scene of an accident. She also had to pay for a new mirror.

Ye I am aware that if I'm not fast they will get my number plate, I only usually do it when they are in traffic or I have an easy get away.

Having looked on youtube I see many motorcycle videos where the driver is a complete idiot too, so I guess this goes both ways.

Having driven in numerous different countries over the years, like most of central Europe, USA, Mexico, Dubai, Singapore, South-Korea.
I am currently in China, and there is NO WAY I will ever drive a vehicle here, this place is crazy !!!!

In a car I'm not a very aggressive driver, on the bike even less so, I never take risks on the bike because I know I am the one who has to pay the price if something happens.
I see things, but I always drive with a huge margin when on the bike, because I know how easy it is not to see a bike, I usually see them myself, but I have been surprised a few times too.

How many of these videos although the rider is strictly speaking in the right do you see and are mentally leaning on the brakes
for them long before the obvious happens, it's as though they are more interested in proving a point than saving there own skin,
treat all other road user's as homicidal maniacs and you wont go far wrong.

This is pretty much why I never watch videos like that.

I don't mind the occasional Russian dash cam compilation of cars and trucks wiping each other out so long as it doesn't get too gory, but I hate watching bike ones. I always find myself grabbing for the brakes well before whoever is barreling towards certain doom has even thought about it.

Quite uncomfortable.

oh don't get me wrong I cover the brakes all the time, having crashed a couple of times I am quite cautions when i don't know what other cars are going to do i.e. pulling out of junctions and what not.

I was thinking a bit more on these videos where bikes are wheeling on highways at 100km/h++, blasting past cars 2-3 times the speed of the car, overtaking before blind corners and hills.
You have people flying between lanes of more or less stationary traffic, people cutting blind corners on country roads etc.
Basically doing things where very little needs to happen and its game over for the rider.
Some riders do, in my mind, some really crazy stuff on the roads, maybe it's because I'm new to riding bikes I notice this, or its because I have a long history with cars and track driving before getting on a bike.

I've been riding over 30 years and I'm as baffled as you by it.

I spend a lot of time weaving through London rush hour traffic. While I'm by no means the slowest rider around, I'm sometimes pretty horrified at the way a few other riders do it. It would only take a car to move 2 inches towards them, they'd catch a mirror and be sliding under whatever was following them.

Most of the time you get to the next lights and they're sitting there waiting anyway.

31 years ago I wrecked my CBX 550 F2 (pic below) and lost a kidney in the process, haven't had an accident since. Back then I was driving like complete moron, today I still like to drive pretty fast but only on empty and curvy roads. Top speed does nothing for me, corner speed is da shit. The MT07 or even an R3 is plenty fast enough to have seriously fun.

I've had a few minor ones, have a nice scar on my knee from a run-in with a Ford Sierra in 1986. I'm with you on the rest of it. I have no idea what the top speed is on my MT07, couldn't care less.

What I do know is it gave my brother a surprise last Sunday, when we were gunning away from some lights on an empty dual carriage way. He was on his FJR1300, and I easily had him for the first 200m or so. His reaction:- "That thing is faster than it looks, isn't it?".

The really sad thing is that if you showed the police these 2 videos Im pretty certain they would do nothing against the c1/107 driver but would probably want to prosecute you for crossing chevrons. Not that I think anything you did in vid was unreasonable or unsafe in any way! Unfortunately I have good reason to think this based on past experience, say no more!
